SB 454 (Lowenthal) passed out of the Senate Transportation and Housing Committee on Tuesday with a bi-partisan vote. The bill would remove the sunset on state preservation law (Gov’t code section 65863.10 et seq.). This law, first enacted in 1990, seeks to ensure the preservation of existing federal, state and locally assisted affordable housing, by identifying entities interested in purchasing and preserving housing at risk of conversion to market rates. The bill now moves to the Senate Appropriations Committee.
With the Legislature on recess until January, we are developing our bill package for the coming year, in preparation for introduction in 2010. Check back here in the near future for bill updates and alerts.
